High School Dual Match Format

A match day varsity roster consists of seven players:

The 1 spot must be better than or equal to the 2 spot. Same with the 2 spot over the 3 spot.

For varsity dual matches (against just one team) each court counts as one-point and a team must win on three courts to win as a team. Scoring is typically best of three sets (with a 10-point tie break for the 3rd set if the team match is already decided).

There is no set varsity line-up from match to match, so players can change positions, or move on and off of the varsity line up throughout the season.

Everyone not in the top 7 will play JV for the match.

Most JV players will play doubles. If we have more players than the opposing team, our players at the bottom of the line-up may still get the opportunity to play an intra-squad match against another South player.

JV scoring is typically a pro-set to 8, or a standard set to 6.

Tournaments

Some high school tournaments are played in an individual format, with individual scores contributing toward a team total. In this type of tournament, each position (1, 2, 3 singles, and 1, 2 doubles) plays a separate tournament for that position against other players in the same position. Because each of the individual tournaments has a random draw, we could be playing players from five different schools during the same round. Each position's finish in the individual tournament is then assigned a point value that gets added to the team score to determine a team winner.

Other tournaments are played as a team - school vs. school at all five positions with the winning team moving on to play another winning team.
