South Tennis Player Development Program
Returning players should aim to complete 30 activities from the player development program prior to the first day of practice. Players planning to tryout for the first time are highly encouraged to participate as well, but need to contact Coach Corry to be added to the form below.
GOAL ONE: Physically and mentally preparing for the upcoming tennis season.
GOAL TWO: Improve on individual tennis skills that will add value to the team.
GOAL THREE: Learn that being a good tennis player and a good teammate involves more preparation than just showing up the first day of practice.
Choose an activity from the list below, complete the activity, and submit a brief reflection through the form below. You may repeat the same activity up to 5 times, but must submit a separate reflection each time you complete the activity. You should do your best to complete a variety of activities pulling from each of the three categories.
Physical Conditioning
1 hour of core training
1 hour of weight training
30 minutes grip strength training
30 minutes of running sprints
1 hour of long distance running
30 minutes of jumping rope
30 minutes of agility drills
1 hour group workout class
Tennis Skill Development
Play in a tournament. Each opponent can be a separate log entry.
Play an adult
Take a 1 hour tennis lesson (group or private)
Work on one stroke repetitively
Serve a basket of balls with consistent goals and self-reflection
Service toss and swing repetitions(have someone video)
Experiment with string tension or demo a new racket
Buy TENNIS shoes, pay attention to how they impact your movements on court
Give a lesson to a younger/new player
Educational Tennis Activities
Read an instructional tennis article
Watch an instructional tennis video
Read a book chapter on tennis technique / strategy
Read a tennis player biography
Discuss your tennis development with a coach and ask for advice
Watch a match on tv and listen to commentators
Identify an in-match routine that that you can make your own
Research strategies, patterns of play, etc.
Identify a new nutritional practice / hydration practice
Identify one of your strengths on court
Identify one of your weaknesses on court
Get together with teammates
